Our Club

Kiama Alpine Club Cooperative Limited is a not-for-profit sporting club with over 50 years history. Founded in 1957 by 120 residents from the Kiama area.

The club has now grown to over 370 members from Kiama and all over the Illawarra, Sydney, Canberra and Snowy regions plus numerous interstate members.

Many of our member families have 3 or 4 generations who have enjoyed skiing and snowboarding in winter and summer bushwalking in the Kosciusko National Park.

The Club is voluntarily managed by a Board of 10 to 12 Directors who are responsible for the operations of the Club and the Lodge.

Membership is opened from time to time. Although new family membership is currently closed, if you are interested in potential membership please contact us.

Kiama Alpine Club’s mission is to encourage participation in year-round alpine recreational activities.

We do this by promoting an active and inclusive family oriented club membership and by seeking to provide good value accommodation for members and their guests at our Lodge in Thredbo.

Our 30 bed Lodge is available for use by members and guests. It is situated in the heart of Thredbo Village – close to all its facilities, including shops, cafes and sporting activities.

We value:

  • Cooperation and teamwork – all members have equal ownership and an equal voice
  • Our common bonds of enjoying alpine activities and healthy competition

Our Lodge in Thredbo Village

Our 30 bed Lodge is available for use by members and guests. It is situated in the heart of Thredbo Village – close to all its facilities, including shops, cafes and sporting activities.

It is managed by an onsite lodge manager who facilitates everyone’s bookings and stay with us.

FAQs

How can I join the club?

Please note that new membership is currently closed with the exception of new membership for spouses and to 18 year olds whose parents are members.
We are occationally offering family memberships on a limited basis (max. of two per year at the Board’s discretion). As membership had been closed for many years, applications are being offered firstly to those people who have been on the waiting list the longest. Unfortunately this could mean family membership may not be available to you for some time, however, we are happy to share with you the details and add you to our waiting list if you are interested.
The entry fee for Family Membership has previously been $24,200 and included membership for two parents (2) and up to four (4) children under the age of 18 years. Membership entry fees are used to fund future capital improvements to the Lodge so it is important to note that in accordance with the rules of the Kiama Alpine Club Cooperative Limited, the entry fee is non-refundable and memberships are NOT transferrable and cannot be re-sold.
In the meantime, we welcome the friends/guests of members at Kiama Alpine Lodge – it isn’t necessary for you to be a member or in the company of a member to stay. The rates and room availability are available to view on our website.

What is it like staying at the lodge?

At Kiama Apline Lodge we have great facilities. Being a club lodge, everyone staying at the lodge is expected to help maintain these facilities and keep the lodge neat and tidy. There are a few things to note for arriving at and when leaving the lodge along with communal cleaning duties that when everyone works together take very little effort to do.
